Dear ASU Volleyball Alum,

Greetings from the ASU Volleyball Program!  I cannot believe that the summer is just about over.  Some of you are in the middle of two-a-days with your high school teams, while others are just remembering what those days were like, and “how much easier kids have it these days.”  J  With six of seven starters returning and a solid group of newcomers, the future is bright for ASU.  Last season, we took another step closer to our goal of making an NCAA tournament.  As I am sure you are aware, it has been since 1992 that ASU has earned a birth to compete for a National Championship.  We are long overdue and ready to make that happen.

For the past two years, I have sent out these letters asking for your help.  I do realize that with the state of the economy, it is a stretch for anyone to donate to any type of organization right now.  I am hopeful that you might be able to help us though.  I would be lying if I told you that the participation rate in our Alumni Cornerstone program has been stellar.  It hasn’t.  But, I am not deterred.   I know that many of you are considering making a donation.  No matter the size, every little bit helps.

Why do we need your help?  Well the answer is simple.  Just like in every other part of the country, the economy has taken its toll on our University.  Scholarship and operational budgets are being trimmed in every sport.  To top it off, the person that has been the main sponsor for our home tournament the past two seasons, has sold his medical practice here in San Angelo and moved to San Antonio.  His annual donation of $5000 is what we are trying to replace so that we can run a quality event.

We have decided to try something a little different this year.  We are sending you a copy of our 2010 media guide along with this invitation to help support our volleyball program.  It is our way of saying thanks for at least considering us.  We’d love to send you the 2011 version.  J

I hope that you will consider joining our Alumni Cornerstone program.  We have reworked the membership levels a little so that even the smallest of donations can receive recognition.  Foundation Level members will receive an ASU Volleyball T-shirt, a subscription to our volleyball newsletter and a 2011 media guide.  In addition to the Foundation Level benefits, Cornerstone Level members will receive free access to our home match webcasts and a silver locker plaque mounted in our team locker room.  Pinnacle Level members will receive Cornerstone Level benefits with a gold locker plaque in place of the silver.

Your donation will help us in a number of ways.  It allows us to travel a little more comfortably, upgrade our equipment, augment our recruiting and scholarship budgets and play the teams that will help us compete for conference, regional and national championships.  I invite you to consider joining our Alumni Cornerstone Program for 2011, and if you are already a member, I hope you will consider helping us again.  It is an opportunity to support your alma mater and enrich the lives of some very talented young ladies.  I look forward to a great year!!

Sincerely,

Chuck Waddington
