Dear ASU Volleyball Alum,

Greetings from the ASU Volleyball Program!  I hope that you are enjoying your summer.  As August approaches, we are very excited about this upcoming season.  With ten players that all received significant playing time and another incredibly talented group of newcomers headed to San Angelo, we hope to continue our upward climb and challenge for both Lone Star Conference and NCAA regional titles.  2009 put us on the doorstep to greatness.  Finishing 3rd in the LSC and ranked 9th in the region poll are things that most of our conference opponents would be excited about.  While we are happy with that success, we are not satisfied with it.  2010 is the year that ASU busts through that door and heads into the next step in its success, the NCAA tournament!

One thing that I have learned over the years is that the most successful collegiate volleyball programs cannot do it by themselves.   They really depend on the support of not only the school itself, but also that of the players’ parents and program alumni.    That kind of support can come in many forms including attending matches, preparing pre or post-game meals for the team when they are on the road in your area, offering the team a place to stay on road trips and making financial donations.  All of these things not only make our players’ experience at ASU better, but they make others want to be a part of it.

Last summer, we decided to try and reach out to our players’ parents and you, our volleyball alumni, to ask for your support.  While I will say that our response was not overwhelming, we did have some former ‘Belles that really wanted to be a part of our growing success.  We are again reaching out to you for your support.  Our team is young and talented and has high aspirations for 2010 and beyond.  We are planning a trip to Florida this fall to play some strong competition and need your help to make it happen.  The trip itself will cost somewhere in the range of $13,000.  Last year, between our current players’ parents and our Alumni Cornerstone members, we raised about $4,000.  As you can see we have some work to do.  J

I hope that you will consider joining our Alumni Cornerstone program.  We have reworked the membership levels a little so that even the smallest of donations can receive recognition.  Foundation Level members will receive an ASU Volleyball T-shirt, a subscription to our volleyball newsletter and a 2010 media guide.  In addition to the Foundation Level benefits, Cornerstone Level members will receive free access to our home match webcasts and a silver locker plaque mounted in our team locker room.  Pinnacle Level members will receive Cornerstone Level benefits with a gold locker plaque in place of the silver.

Your donation will help us in a number of ways.  It allows us to travel a little more comfortably, upgrade our equipment, augment our recruiting and scholarship budgets and play the teams that will help us compete for conference, regional and national championships.  I invite you to consider joining our Alumni Cornerstone Program for 2010, and if you are already a member, I hope you will consider helping us again.  It is an opportunity to support your alma mater and enrich the lives of some very talented young ladies.  I look forward to a great year!!

Sincerely,

Chuck Waddington
