Jennifer Cooke - Beverly Borron Scholarship Information

On October 23, 1979, tragedy struck the Angelo State volleyball team.  Two of its players, Jennifer Cooke, a junior from Odessa, and Beverly Borron,

a sophomore from Imperial, were killed in an airplane crash in Sonora.  Following practice that afternoon, the two had flown to Sonora with friends

Todd Carlisle of San Angelo and Michael Stucky of Peabody, KS.  They planned to have dinner and be back in San Angelo that evening.  Upon returning,

the Cessna 182 crashed shortly after takeoff, killing Cooke, Borron and Stucky instantly.  Carlisle, who was believed to be piloting the plane, died a

week later in the hospital.  The following year, Beverly’s number 16 jersey and Jennifer’s number 24 jersey were retired and placed here to pay tribute

to the lives of these young ladies and to honor their memories.

This year (2009) marks the 30th anniversary of the tragedy that took these two young ladies from us.  An endowed scholarship has been set up in the names

of Jennifer and Beverly to help current Angelo State volleyball athletes pursue their dreams of playing collegiate volleyball and earning their degree.  I hope

that you will consider making a donation to this scholarship fund.  Your contribution can make a huge difference in the life of one of our players.  To
